Sazerac

Note:

The use of absinthe or Herbsaint to rinse the glass adds a subtle herbal note to the drink. The combination of rye whiskey, sugar, and bitters creates a complex and aromatic cocktail, perfect for whiskey enthusiasts.

1
2 ounces rye whiskey
2
1 sugar cube (or 1/2 ounce simple syrup)
3
2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
4
Absinthe or Herbsaint (for rinsing the glass)
5
Lemon peel, for garnish
1

Start by chilling an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit while preparing the rest of the drink.

2

In a separate mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube with a few drops of water (or use simple syrup if preferred).

3

Add the rye whiskey and Peychaud's bitters to the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and stir until well combined.

4

Discard the ice from the chilled Old Fashioned glass and rinse the inside of the glass with a small amount of absinthe or Herbsaint, swirling it around to coat the sides of the glass. Discard any excess liquid.

5

Strain the whiskey mixture from the mixing glass into the rinsed Old Fashioned glass.

6

Garnish by twisting a strip of lemon peel over the glass to release its oils, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel before dropping it into the drink.

7

Serve and enjoy responsibly.
